World Book Day

How did you celebrate?

It is that time of the year, where children and adults alike, do something different to celebrate their love for reading books.

I had the pleasure of spending my morning with the children at Fairytales Nursery in Birmingham.

The pre-school room was buzzing with excitement! As I entered the storytime area, it was great to see the children suited and booted as their favourite characters. There was Marvel Superhero Thor, Disney Princesses Bell, and Elsa, The Lion King’s Simba and Skye from Paw Patrol. All the children were eager to hear the stories!

The session started with a quick stretch of the body and lungs, and a round of, 🎶 “Twinkle, Twinkle”✨ (aka song no°1).

Time To Introduce The Books.

Peace At Last

By Jill Murphy.

“The hour was late and Mr. Bear was tired…”

The children listen intensely, as Mr. Bear roamed the house in search of a peaceful place to sleep. He eventually tries the car. However, the sun starts to shine and the birds begin to sing…

Oh no, will Mr. Bear get his peace at last?

The pre-school children enthusiastically joined in with snoring Mrs. Bear, nyaawing Baby Bear, the tick-tocking clock and the other kitchen sounds. They especially enjoyed the sounds in the garden:

“Too-Whit-Too-Whoo, Snuffle Snuffle, Miaaaow”

Song no°2 "Baa Baa Black Sheep"🎶

Full, Full, Full of Love

By Trish Cooke.

I Love, Love, Love this book 😍

It captures my family culture beautifully 👌🏾With the clink clanking of colourful dishes and the warmth of a traditional family Sunday dinner 😋

“The dinner smelled lovely” and Jay Jay’s hungry!

The children listened with anticipation as Grannie patiently distracts Jay Jay whilst cooking Sunday dinner. Thankfully, Jay Jay did not have to wait too long before the family came pouring into Grannie’s house. Their smiley faces and hungry bellies captured the children’s attention.

Definitely a great book to cuddle up to.

Song no°3 "One, Two, Three, Four, Five"🎶🙌🏾

One Ted Falls Out Of Bed

By Julie Donaldson and Anna Currey.

One Ted Falls out of bed. How will he ever get back in?

The children joined Ted on his adventure back to the desired prime position on the bed. Will Ted get back into bed? You can count on it!

Literally, you can count on it!

The children loved the ingenious way of playfully counting to ten.

My Hair Curls

They said ‘My Hair Curls’ is their favourite book 🎉

They listened intensely, as Angeline rhythmically introduces herself and her friends. She affectionally describes the length, colour, and texture of their hair whilst, affirming her love for her naturally curly hair.

“My hair curls and I love it!”

Song no°4 "Head Shoulders Knees and Toes"🎶🙆🏾‍♀️💁🏾‍♀️

I can happily say, it has been a good day.
